Fashion Revolution just launched their 2019 Fashion Transparency Index report that has rated 200 of the world’s biggest brands (chosen on the basis of annual turnover representing more than $500m) based on their public disclosure of supply chain policies and traceability, as well as social & environmental impact.

No brands scored above 70%. Although, the highest score in 2018 was 60% and 50% in 2017 which shows that some progressive brands are taking tangible steps to disclose more about their human rights and environmental policies, practices and impacts.

This year Adidas, Reebok, Patagonia, Esprit and H&M scored the highest and achieved between 61-70% (out of a total of 250 points).

The brands in the 51-60% overall range included Asos, Marks & Spencer and Gap.  The highest-scoring luxury brands in the report were Gucci and Bottega Veneta in the 31-40% range, although in the policy-and-commitments and governance areas they achieved 100%.

“The results aren’t that surprising: the average score for all 200 brands and retailers is 21% out of 250 possible points, proving that there is still a lot of work to be done.” states the report.

Please note that the index doesn’t evalutate brands’ ethical or sustainability performance but rather how much information they disclose publicly about their human rights and environmental policies, practices and impacts.
